About the Board Members

Tyler Candee. Tyler re-joined the Board in 2024, after having served on the Board and as Treasurer from 2018-2021. Tyler and his family have lived in northeast for over 15 years, currently in Audubon Park. He maintains a second home at Hazel’s NE. By day, Tyler is an attorney who focuses on avoiding and resolving disputes.

Amy Fields. Amy grew up around cooperatives in a rural South Dakota community, where the grain elevator, gas station, telephone and electric utilities, insurance and the funeral home were all cooperative. In high school, Amy attended Co-op Leadership Camp in Liberty, MO. She discovered food co-ops in Philadelphia, PA during her college years, and became hooked for life. Amy was the general manager at The Merc Co+op in Lawrence, KS for six years before relocating the Northeast Minneapolis in 2003 to start Eastside Food Co-op, which she managed for 14 years. During that time, Amy was involved in the founding of Northeast Investment Co-op. For the past 7 years, Amy has worked as an advisor and resource manager at National Co+op Grocers (NCG), where she supports co-op managers, staff and boards at co-ops throughout the central US. Two slogans encapsulate Amy's approach to cooperative business: "Community Ownership of Community Assets" and "No Margin, No Mission." Let's do it together and let's be financially viable while we're doing it!

Evan Hall. Evan arrived in the twin cities in 2007, and joined NEIC after learning about it in 2015. Evan has a professional background in software development, database management, and web development.

Nathan Miller, Treasurer. Nathan is passionate about community investing. His day job is developing new business opportunities bringing together agriculture, technology, and finance at Cargill. He's excited for the opportunities that we can create to build community wealth while filling gaps in community needs that are unmet by other investors and developers.

Colleen O’Connor Toberman, Vice President. Colleen O'Connor Toberman is an early member of NEIC and previously served on the board from 2013-2019. She is inspired by the co-op's focus on boosting the neighborhood economy and vibrancy. Colleen works in land use policy and advocacy for a local nonprofit, is the vice president of her curling club's board of directors, and also owns residential and commercial rental properties. She lives in the Audubon Park neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis with her husband.

Dan Scoggins, Secretary. Dan has been on seven different non-profit and church boards. He owns two single family rental properties in Southern Minnesota and owned a rental property in NE Minneapolis for 25 years. Dan attended the first informational meeting about NEIC. He was so excited that he wrote the first A-share membership check on the spot, before NEIC had a bank account to cash it. Currently Dan is a Labor Organizer for SEIU Local 26. He may be the only Community Organizer you will meet with an MBA.

Dylan Stanton. Dylan is a residential landlord with a small portfolio of houses and apartments throughout the city, including in Northeast. Dylan also work as a draftsperson in the structural department of an Architecture and Engineering firm here in town, and has a strong interest in the built environment and how it impacts the community. Dylan lived in NE Minneapolis for ten years, and has been a member of NEIC since the beginning of the co-op.

Leslie Watson, President. Leslie was among the group of folks who dreamt up NEIC while sitting around a table at Diamonds Coffee back in the day. She previously served on NEIC’s board from 2011-2017 and also spent ten years on the board of the Eastside Food Co-op, beginning the year before the store opened and including a stint as board president. Leslie now works as a governance consultant, supporting the boards of retail food co-ops and other kinds of organizations in their efforts to govern wisely and well. She lives, gardens, surfs the internet, and frequently orders Chimborazo from her home in the Columbia Park neighborhood.

Jill Wilhelmi. Jill has been involved in NEIC in a variety of roles since the early days and has previously served on the NEIC Board of Directors. Jill also serves on the board of Chorus Polaris, a community choir based in Columbia Heights. During the day, Jill is a corporate attorney. Jill lives with her husband Loren and two kids in the Waite Park neighborhood.
